The Hanlon Park Rejuvenation Project

Brisbane City Council , Norman Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee

Brisbane City Council (BCC) estimates that there are 14.5 kilometres of fully lined concrete channels within its overall drainage network, including 1.6 kilometres within the Norman Creek catchment of central Brisbane. Heavy rains and flooding are regular events in this city, and managing life with and around them is a constant challenge, especially in areas like Norman Creek. These concrete channels reduce the ability of the environment to absorb excess rainfall. In this project, concrete channels will be removed and replaced with a natural ecosystem and parkland, in an effort by Brisbane City Council to rejuvenate a section of Norman Creek and improve rainwater permeability.
